Overview

At Summits Education, we’re putting teachers back into the center of the world’s education systems. We work in partnership with local communities and governments to transform education systems by investing in the most important tool for improving student outcomes, teachers.

Summits Education supports a network of 41 primary schools in Haiti’s Central Plateau comprised of 9772 students. We offer ongoing training and development for the 336 teachers, administrators and staff within the network or primary schools. In addition, Summits Education is currently constructing a college-preparatory school which will serve as a center of excellence for the primary network. Summits Academy will serve 300 students under a curriculum centered on entrepreneurship and social justice and will double as a teacher and administrator development facility.

Description

In partnership with the Executive Director and the Summits Education Board of Directors, the Country Director will provide strategic leadership, oversight, management and evaluation for the operational and programmatic initiatives of Summits Education.

The Country Director will lead and direct all Haiti-based operations and play a critical role in cultivating relationships with key partners, including program officers, government officials, partner organizations, and other stakeholders. The Country Director will be a key driver of excellence and impact in an organization with bold, ambitious plans.

Responsibilities

  • Develop organization’s strategic plan and establish benchmarks in partnership with the Executive Director
  • Oversee the planning, implementation, and evaluation of Summits Education’s programs
  • Develop and manage annual budgets
  • Lead and manage the programmatic operation of the organization
  • Maintain and cultivate relationships with key partners and stakeholders
  • Oversee the fulfillment of contract requirements and contract reporting
  • Establish and monitor program performance metrics
  • Assist with high-level construction oversight, including financial management and reporting
  • Develop organization’s’ policies and procedures
  • Ensure compliance with national and local laws, regulations and financial management standards

Summits Education is seeking an experienced videographer and photographer to join our team in Haiti for the summer. The ideal candidate is creative, passionate, and driven storyteller with a demonstrated commitment to social justice. A background in journalism and communications is a huge plus.

The Creative Content Producer is responsible for developing the content that help drives our fundraising and inspires our community to support our work in Haiti’s Central Plateau. Applicants must be able to commit to a minimum of two months on-site. Travel, room and board is provided along with a monthly living stipend. Responsibilities:

  • Develop compelling material to support fundraising efforts on social media and web-based platforms.
  • Capture photos and videos of our programs in our primary school network.
  • Interview and engage with teachers, students and donors to develop and produce captivating stories from our communities in Haiti
  • Produce timely, bold and cutting edge multimedia material

Summits is looking for an intern for the Fall semester to help the organization build its fundraising capacity. Working from our Boston office, the Development Intern will assist the Director of Development with research, communications, and strategic planning for Summits’ fundraising efforts. This is an opportunity to work on real projects that will help the organization grow.

  • Support the Executive Director and Director of Development with communications and planning for online fundraising campaigns.
  • Manage Summits Expeditions inquiries and provide fundraising coaching and support to participants in the program. Summits Expeditions offers service learning trips to Haiti for people who crave adventure, meaning and impact in their travel.
  • Support the Director of Development in managing donor database and donor stewardship.
  • Support the Executive Director and Director of Development in the design, preparation and launch of a capital campaign.
  • Research successful non-profit income-generation models
  • Research partnership opportunities with relevant foundations, corporations, and benefactors

  • Assist with copy editing of proposals and reports

Summary

Summits Education seeks a dynamic and experienced Foundation and Corporate Relations Manager who will focus on securing increased funding from foundation sources and building corporate partnerships. Additional responsibilities include donor stewardship, research, prospecting, and submitting grant proposals and reports. The Foundation and Corporate Relations Manager will be a highly valued member of the small, but mighty Boston based Summits team. As with any start-up enterprise, they would be expected to be flexible, entrepreneurial, and willing to help with other various projects as needed.

The Foundation and Corporate Relations Manager will work in close partnership with the executive team in Haiti to design grant proposals and corporate partnerships that fully align with programmatic needs and priorities. The Development team is responsible for securing $3 million or more in annual support from individual, corporate and foundation sources during the next fiscal year, with plans to significantly scale over the next three years.

Responsibilities

  • Increase current annual committed foundation support from $600,000 to $1.2 million in the first full year of the position.
  • Administer all grant/report writing with support from the Director of Development.
  • Identify new opportunities for foundation support through proactive prospecting as well as ongoing cultivation.
  • Leverage Summits’ resources to create customized strategies for cultivation, stewardship and recognition for each foundation.
  • Maintain accurate records of donor cultivation, solicitation and stewardship activities.
  • Represent Summits with energy and charisma at local corporate and community events.
  • Contribute to the intellectual and organizational capacity of Summits by staying apprised of trends in international development, education, and current events in Haiti.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Three or more years of professional fundraising experience, ideally in an international nonprofit or educational organization, with the proven ability to meet and exceed fundraising goals.
  • Successful track record of leveraging verbal communication, writing and editing skills to meet fundraising goals and inspire a wide range of audiences.
  • Experience working with and strong knowledge base of foundation relations.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex projects with sensitive relationships and critical deliverables.
  • Experience using relationship management software, preferably Salesforce.
  • Well-honed organizational skills with the proven ability to handle competing priorities and think critically.
  • Clear passion for social justice and unwavering belief in the power of education.
